Murmann Global Publishing

No matter whether Wolfgang Kersting has written a “brilliant essay” (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung) about liberalism, David Marsh an “excellent and highly entertaining review of the euro” (Rheinischer Merkur), Peter Felixberger a “must-read for all members of the German parliament” (Handelsblatt) or we have published an elaborately illustrated book about the history of Germanischer Lloyd – all these books have one thing in common: They are all products of the Hamburg-based Murmann Verlag. Murmann has published over 100 books of excellent content and imagery since 2004, greatly enhancing its reputation in a relatively short period of time. Today, we are one of the leading German non-fiction publishing houses, focussing on business, society and politics – not necessarily because of the sheer volume of books, but because of their outstanding quality.

We produce books for people who critically reflect on the pressing questions of our age, on what the future may hold. We publish authors who wish to communicate their analyses and theses with intellectual excellence and passion to a wider audience.
From the very beginning, Murmann Verlag has produced books for English-language readers: We publish corporate histories, such as those of the Sauer-Sundstrand Group, Germanischer Lloyd or Aptare (German, English, French), as well as in the future entire scientific series in German and English. High-quality content as well as cutting-edge production and printing techniques are a matter of course for us. These books will be marketed worldwide as from the spring of 2011.

Technological horizons – and the sea. The future, present and past of Germanischer Lloyd
You can only consider your future if you understand your past. Germanischer Lloyd reflects on its long history and takes a look into the future of maritime economy and technology. And asks itself and the readers the questions: What does the future hold? How will the current technological advances and opportunities be used intelligently and successfully in the future? What might be the effects of climate change on society and the economy? Which role can the maritime industry play?
Interesting reports, fascinating images and informative diagrams provide a glimpse into the future and show just how the company hopes to continue its success story with alternative and environmentally-friendly development.
Safety, quality and environmental protection are the three main issues which Germanischer Lloyd has specified as its future targets. Global change is a challenge as well as an opportunity to innovatively combine economy and ecology in the future.

Sauer-Sundstrand
The history of the Sauer-Sundstrand Group is the history of great success: When the entrepreneur Klaus Murmann secured the licence agreement for Sundstrand technology for the family-owned Sauer Group in 1967, it was the start of a global alliance and the basis for the global player Sauer-Sundstrand.
Companies make history. “Think big, act global” has always been Klaus Murmann’s strategy, and he was so successful that the Sauer Group was eventually able to take over its licenser. Over the years Klaus Murmann developed Sauer-Danfoss into what it is today: a company with 9000 employees in 22 countries and market leader in the field of electro-hydraulics.

Wolfgang Michalski
Hamburg. To ever new frontiers in a globalising world

The history of a city as an example of successful economic policy over a thousand-year period. Wolfgang Michalski shows how the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and its people have derived the benefits of globalization due to innovation and adjustment in spite of the city’s turbulent past. The main focus is on the reasons for this successful process. Which lessons from the city’s past are beneficial for economic and social policies in an increasingly globalized world? This comprehensive analysis of Hamburg shows how to be a winner or loser of globalization. Shortlisted for the German Business Book Prize 2010. English version to be published in spring 2011.
